Feel Good Friday: Rest is a Ritual, Not a Reward
This Friday, we are enjoying the practice of renewal, reflection, and reconnection with self and community.
One of my favorite traits of the Obsidian Wellness Club’s administrators is their willingness to take a break. During major holiday seasons, @joethewellnesscurator announces a break on Obsidian Mindset Podcast for both you, our listeners, and us, the creators.
We use the time between the end and beginning of podcast seasons to reflect on ways we will expand our Obsidian Wellness community in the months ahead. Like you, we are juggling multiple hats in both our professional and personal lives.
Rest can take forms, such as a day off, a weekender, a break, or a vacation. Regardless of the break length, what is most important is your focus on what brings you peace.

Professors at the University of Washington School of Medicine shared that rest and breaks “…replenish your brain’s capacity for attention, focus and creativity, and it allows you to process new information you’ve learned and tie it to other ideas…”. Some studies suggest that our minds process information similarly when we rest as when we are asleep.
Remember, taking a break does not always mean isolating yourself. It can be a chance to connect with others. Whether it is two weeks or two months between podcast seasons, each of the admins at the Obsidian Wellness Club checks in with each other.
We share hilarious memes, send love and support, and express our excitement to return to the club's work. When there is too much time between us, we schedule a Zoom call to crack jokes and talk about our plants, pets, and RPDR. This sense of community and shared purpose makes our breaks not only restful but also rejuvenating.
This week, we encourage you to take a break. Trust that life and your goals will still align even as you recover. There is always time for you to pause and refocus on what is truly important to you. The time your mind and body have to relax will keep you committed to your journey ahead.
