Do Not Disturb: Your Permission To Be Present
For this Feel Good Friday, know that embracing your phone’s Do Not Disturb feature might be the simplest way to reclaim focus, presence, and a little peace.
One of the most used features on my phone is the Do Not Disturb function.
Android and Apple mobile devices allow users to silence calls and notifications for a given time to lessen distraction and increase focus. A benefit of using this setting has been the reduced interruptions from every ding or vibration I hear during my nighttime routine.
Users can tailor this setting to turn on or off at certain times or receive notifications from specific apps. This feature lets important contacts reach the user even if this feature is on, so there are fewer worries in case of an emergency.
Mindful presence always makes me feel good. In these times where our attention is widely craved and divided, a moment to yourself becomes rarer. We should use Do Not Disturb to concentrate on the present moment and not as a means of avoidance. These rare instances remind us how rich life truly is. A moment without interruption can ease our minds, refreshing our psyches to continue the day ahead.
Today, I challenge you to be undisturbed for at least ten minutes. Place on your Do Not Disturb to focus on one of your goals. Grab a snack. Meditate. Read the article you bookmarked for “later.” Play with your child(ren) or pet(s). Breathe. Nap. Do nothing. Whatever you decide, enjoy it knowing that you will be a bit more ready for the moments ahead.
